Sensory Foundation Course. With the Option to take the SCA Foundation EXAM.

Great for beginners and anyone wanting to learn sensory skills.   This is a great course for anyone involved in coffee or who has an interest in Sensory skills - just come along and have a great learning experience.

This course is offered both online and inhouse please check for the available options when booking.

The In-house option is a 1 day course which takes place at our training rooms in Wandsworth, South West, London 10am to 5pm.  The ONLINE course will take place over 2 half day morning sessions from 10am to 2pm on each day. (please be aware courses may run over time). 

As this course is part of the SCA Education programme there is an optional on line exam to complete within 21 days of taking the course . 

The online option: Online, live using Microsoft Teams.

Our Foundation course includes the SCA Certification fee.  However, you are required to pay a additional E50 SCA Student enrolment fee direct to the SCA. (details of how to register and pay this will be provided) if taking the exam.

If attending the inhouse option we aim to provide you with both theory and practical skills.  So in the morning we start with a some theory on how we actually taste which leads us nicely into some fun practical activities! 

You will learn the five basic tastes and how to distinguish each one, followed by fragrance identification using the le nez cafe kit! 

Then in the afternoon session we put into practice what we have learnt and start to analyse coffee samples by following a cupping protocol we can then distinguish aroma & flavour differences in our coffee samples.

By the end you should feel confident in your coffee tasting skills and put it into practice at home and when selecting coffees. 

The online option is slightly different as it is theory based.  You are not required to do any practical skills in order to pass the Foundation level exam.  However, you are required to complete an online theory exam within 21 days of taking the course - so if choosing the online option this will be theory based.  The online option is available to allow students from overseas, or who are unable to travel to site to attend courses and gain the SCA exams without the additional expense of travel and accommodation.

This course includes all the SCA Foundation criteria so if you are looking to gain your SCA points you can take the examination after the course.  However, please note as with all SCA courses you will need to pay the additional Euro50 Student Enrolment fee.
